What is the Soul Movement Studio all about?
Beverly Athletic Club isn’t just a gym – we are a health club. We have a dedicated Pilates studio for those who seek a different kind of workout.
Reese Witherspoon, Tiger Woods, Jason Kidd, Madonna — there’s a reason that so many professional athletes, fitness gurus, and Hollywood-types make Pilates a part of their regular fitness program. Pilates is a full body workout that tones, strengthens and lengthens muscles while continuously working the core — stomach, back and buttocks — without building bulk. Pilates is the complete coordination of mind and body — Joe called it the Art of Contrology.
While today we call it Pilates, no one can explain it better than Joe himself. “Contrology is designed to give you suppleness, natural grace and skill that will be unmistakably reflected in the way you walk, play and work. You will develop muscular power with corresponding endurance, ability to perform arduous duties, to play strenuous games, to walk, run or travel for long distances without undue body fatigue or mental strain.”
In the Soul Movement studio, exercises are done utilizing the Reformer, a spring-based apparatus that Joe specially designed, that provides a very low impact, highly efficient muscle strengthening and flexibility workout. The Reformer challenges difficulty but also assists movement, aiding in appropriate and safe positioning to perform the exercises. You will quickly notice improvements in posture, energy, flexibility, balance, strength, stamina, and muscle tone.
Pilates isn’t just for elite athletes or famous movie stars. Pilates is for all bodies. Pilates is a non-impact, balanced system that works as well for the super-fit as it does for the uninitiated. It can produce results regardless of age or fitness level which makes it a perfect fit for everyone. Like all exercise programs, Pilates is a commitment to yourself. Adhering to a consistent schedule is the only way to achieve the results you desire. As Joe said, it’s a program “that will last all your life.”
